Bringing in Assets
There are a few different options for bringing in assets (static meshes) into UE4.
My original work flow was to bring the 3d cad model in to Blender from Rhino via obj. I used Blender for creating light maps and uvs then exported each asset as an fbx to UE4. I laters witched from Blender to 3ds Max and took advantage of the Datasmith plugin with auto generates Light maps very well on import, saving me a lot of time. The other benefit to using Datasmith with 3ds Max is that you can export Forest Pack objects. I have a green wall in the living room which are Forest Pack objects and it seems to have done a fantastic job in interpreting it.
